Our History
Hi! My name is Jessica Lima and I am the owner/President of Unfinished Furniture Outlet, Inc. I am humbled that you would want to know more about our family owned business.
I began working in the furniture business in 1989 and for over 10 years I worked with my Dad and brother building unfinished bookcases and accessories; selling them at flea markets and craft shows and also supplying local unfinished furniture stores in the Triangle area. It was there that I met my husband Marco.
In December of 2000, I decided it was time for a change and I went to work as a sales person at Real Wood Furniture in Cary, NC and quickly became the store manager. While there, Marco and I began finishing furniture for customers as a side job and eventually saved enough money to open our own unfinished furniture store.
So, we rented a small space in a strip mall and on April 12, 2003, we opened our doors for the first time in Sanford, NC. I managed the store by day while also homeschooling our daughter Melissa. Marco and I finished furniture for customers at night in our workshop at home. Marco kept his day job until the business grew enough that he could come on as the full time finisher in 2010.
After almost 12 years in business, we outgrew our small store and backyard finish shop. We purchased the old "Top Notch" Building Supply facility on Hawkins Avenue near downtown Sanford, NC, rehabilitated the old building (with LOTS of help from Melissa) and moved our showroom and finishing facility to the new location in April 2015.
Since then, we continue to offer quality unfinished furniture that can be custom finished to fit any decor and we have extended our furniture offerings to include high quality Amish made hardwood dining and bedroom furniture as well as a vast selection of outdoor furniture.
Today, Unfinished Furniture Outlet is one of the oldest and largest unfinished furniture stores in the US. We stock a large inventory of unfinished furniture, so most of our customers find what they need without having to order!
We offer custom finishing for our customers who prefer not to finish themselves and provide free design consultation when choosing a finish. Also, our finishers are on site full time to assist in color selection and offer finishing advice to the Do-it Yourself finisher, when needed.
We also offer local delivery which means that you can expect the same professional, courteous service with delivery that you experience while shopping with us. Our delivery area includes Sanford and surrounding areas including Raleigh, Cary, Apex, Durham, Chapel Hill, Pittsboro, Southern Pines, Carthage, Pinehurst, Aberdeen, Fayetteville, and Fort Liberty, NC USA.
